Steering Committee

Role

The formation of the Alice Springs Planning for the Future Steering Committee is a proactive decision of the Northern Territory Government to engage with the regional centres and communities and to shift decision making around local issues to local decision makers.

The Steering Committee is an advisory body that will make recommendations to Government on the implementation of action plan.

The Steering Committee has been asked to accelerate and deliver key action areas that were identified as a result of the forum. These actions will be used to guide the planning of Alice Springs over the next 5 years to 2013.

The Steering Committee will address the five key actions areas identified from the forum, namely:

  • A review of the Structure Plan 1999, Alice Springs Land Use Framework Plan and Principles in the NT Planning Scheme
  • Review of the development control clauses applicable to the CBD zone for Alice Springs
  • The Alice Springs CBD Revitalisation Project
  • Residential Land Release Strategy
  • South of the Gap Infrastructure Headworks.
